Electrical & Renewable Energy
-
The electrical program at Davies is compliant with the National Electric Code, OSHA, and NCCER and offers students a pathway to future employment in the electrical field. Through hands-on learning and classroom theory, students have the opportunity to learn:
- Solar and alternative energy wiring
- Residential and commercial wiring
- Blueprint symbols
- Industry motors and controls
- Security and fire alarm systems
- Programmable Logic Control wiring
- Industrial lighting
- Conduit bending
- Circuit breaker panels
- Service entrance wiring
- Electric range outlets
- Single and three-phase motors
- And more
According to the US Department of Labor, job growth for electricians is much faster than the national average. To become an electrician, most must serve a 4-year apprenticeship before getting their journeyman’s license. Our program is designed to position students for such apprenticeships and students are eligible for advanced standing for electrical apprenticeship programs in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Going Green at Davies
-
At Davies, we believe our students should be exposed to green energy technologies. Davies Electrical students first installed solar panels in 2003. The system is taken apart each May and re-installed each September. Since installation, more than 9,300 MW have been generated.
Upcoming green energy activities include the build-out of a "solar shed" on campus.
