Dear Parents/Guardians of RMS 8th Grade Students,
RMS Counselors will begin holding scheduling appointments with 8th grade students on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. Students will be provided a pass with their appointment time during homeroom to complete their 9th grade schedule. At that time, counselors will review the core subject area courses teachers recommended them for, as well as to enter their elective course requests.
In order to prepare students for their upcoming appointments, current 8th grade students had a scheduling assembly on Tuesday, January 31, 2023. Mrs. Yawney-Kohler, District Director of Guidance, along with the RMS Counseling Team presented an introduction to the High School, including graduation requirements and the 9th grade scheduling process.
During the assembly on January 31st students were provided the following elective sheet to assist them in making their course selections. Students were encouraged to come to their scheduling appointments with four (4) to five (5) elective options. Please take time to review the following link with your student. 9th Grade Electives
In an effort to assist students and families in making effective course selections, the High School Departments have created the following website. The website provides course descriptions for electives, helping students to quickly gain information about the courses available to them. The website can be viewed via the following link: HS Curriculum Corner Website
The High School Course Guide contains all of the information necessary to plan your secondary educational program. It includes descriptions of all the courses offered at the High School, both required and elective, as well as BOCES program information for rising 11th and 12th grade students. Diploma requirements and graduation pathways are outlined, along with the course selection process. Click the following link to view the entire high school course guide: 2022-2023 High School Course Guide
Schedules will be released to students in August, prior to the start of the school year. At that time, it may not be possible to make elective changes, so it is important that students are thoughtful and thorough in their course selection process.
All course requests for the 2023-2024 school year will be finalized this spring. This includes course selection and finalized placements for students with a 504 Plan or IEP based on the annual review process.
The RMS team is excited to assist your child in starting their transition to high school! Please contact your child's counselor if you have any questions or concerns regarding the course selection process.
