Dear Parents and Students:
We hope that students and their families are enjoying/have enjoyed an incredibly restful, relaxing, and healthy summer vacation. The administration, faculty and staff at Commack Middle School are excited to begin the 2023-2024 school year full of opportunities to reconnect and to grow both socially and academically.
As we embark on the 2023-2024 school year, we at Commack Middle School remain dedicated to creating an enriching learning environment that supports the social and academic development of all learners. We are committed to guiding our students as they navigate the challenging world of adolescence and grow into influential leaders.
At Commack Middle School we pride ourselves on creating a child-centered learning environment that enables children to achieve both academic and personal growth. We believe in providing students with access to a rigorous and developmentally appropriate curriculum that fosters critical thinking, inquiry, and problem-solving skills. Student involvement in our Middle Years Program (MYP) encourages the development of reflective practices and aids in the advancement of their capacities to think globally; drawing connections between academic disciplines and applying their learnings to larger contexts.
We believe that an approach to education that is holistic in nature, fully supporting the needs of all learners, is essential to our students’ development. Now more than ever, we challenge our students to pursue their interests and take advantage of the wide range of extracurricular, co-curricular, athletic, artistic and/or musical opportunities available to them. Such opportunities allow students to explore their growing passions, enfranchise them into the greater school community and assist in the development of a balanced approach toward their education.
We will continue to place great emphasis on the core values of respect, responsibility, cultivating relationships, and embracing the academic, social, and personal growth that ensues. Our team represents these values daily, and expects the same from our students.
I remain grateful for the opportunity to serve as the middle school principal and look forward to working collectively with parents/guardians, students, and staff, as we strive to achieve the shared goal of developing our children to their finest capacities.
Sincerely,
Dr. Michael K. Larson
