James E. Allen Jr/Sr High School
Students in this Internship Program participate as student
interns at the James E. Allen Center in Dix Hills. Students work
with learning impaired, emotionally and/or physically challenged
middle school and high school children on a daily basis for two
periods for the full school year. Commack High School students
experience a different classroom assignment each marking
period. Besides their assigned primary classes, students can also
observe the Speech, Physical and Occupational Therapy
programs at James E. Allen Center. Most of these students are
future professionals in the areas of Special Education,
Psychology, Nursing, Vision/Speech/Physical and Occupational
Therapy or Social Work. Grades are based on evaluations,
weekly journals and time sheets.
