English Learner Resources

We know how dedicated our multilingual families are to helping their student succeed, and we want to make sure you have some helpful resources to do this!

Here are some helpful tips for helping your multilingual student succeed:

Practice Reading at Home:
There are many ways to help your children learn to read! From the time they are babies to their high school years, you can take various small steps along the way—rhyming and singing songs, reading out loud, sounding out letters, visiting the library, and reading books together in your home language. Helping your children learn to read may also involve seeking support if they encounter difficulties, which can impact their future success.

School Success
As a parent, there are many ways to help your child succeed in school! Helping your child get to school on time, get a good night's sleep, and looking for help if your child is having a hard time are all important steps that will make a difference each day. In the U.S., there is also more interaction between schools and families than in other countries. We also highly encourage our parents to get involved! Join a parent club or committee, and come to parent events!

Raising Bilingual Kids
One of the greatest gifts you can give your child is the gift of two (or more!) languages. Being bilingual is good for your child's brain, makes communication with grandparents and relatives easier, and is an advantage for finding jobs in the future.

The Library
Every school site has a library and we highly encourage our students to check out books, so that they can practice reading. Additionally, both Clovis and Fresno have amazing libraries with millions of books that can be checked out at no cost!
