Clovis Unified School District is committed to providing the best educational experience to all students within the district and ensuring that all students reach their fullest potential. We understand and appreciate that some of our students arrive needing additional language support in order to fully access the core curriculum, master the state standards, and ultimately graduate from high school ready for post-secondary school or the workforce. We strive to provide a program that reflects the needs of the Multilingual English learners we serve and while we are focused on teaching the California Common Core State Standards to all students, we also utilize the California ELD standards to guide the instruction for our English Learner Students as well as to support EL progress and the reclassification process.
The California ELD standards can be found here:
ELD Standards (rtf)Clovis Unified School District currently serves approximately 2,400 English learners with over 38 languages represented. While Clovis has always had a focus on parent partnerships, this has become an even greater need with the vast diversity in languages that we have within our community. We truly depend on the partnership of our parents to help our students be successful.
Two parent committees committed to the needs of our Multilingual English Learners work in partnership with both our sites and district. These two committees are:
- English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) which is held at all school sites that have 21 or more Multilingual students on their campus and
- District English Language Advisory Committee (DELAC) which is a parent committee made up of ELAC members who serve on the district-level committee.
