Mrs. Strickland
I have been teaching for 30 years and love every minute of it! I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education & Elementary Education from D'Youville College in Buffalo, N.Y. I went on to earn my Master's Degree in Behavior/Emotional Strategies at the University Of Nevada Las Vegas.
I was born and raised in Buffalo, N.Y. where it was freezing and icy, and I was a horrible driver, sliding into everything, so after I graduated with my Bachelor's Degree, I moved to Las Vegas, N.V., where the weather was much warmer, and yes it is hot there, but you really do not sweat. After 12 years of teaching General Education, students with Emotional/Behavioral Disorders, and students with ASD, I received a call from my mom that she had cancer and had 3 months to live. We immediately sold our house and moved back to Buffalo, N.Y. to be with her. My 2 kids were young and needed to be with their grandma. In Buffalo, I was blessed to get hired at the hospital I was born at, Children's Hospital of Buffalo, where I taught young, just identified students with Emotional/Behavioral Disorders. I loved helping these young children learn how to control their behaviors to become successful in their life as they grow and mature. After my mom passed, we moved to Florida because without my mom, Buffalo was not the same. I have been teaching in Florida since 2006. I taught in Tampa for the Hillsborough County School District until 2 years ago, when we decided to move to Charlotte County to leave the busy life in Tampa. My husband and I are thrilled to be here with our 3 black labs. We just rescued a puppy and, oh my goodness, I forgot how much work a puppy takes.
I am thrilled to be the teacher of the best kids in our school. I teach the Access Points Classroom G-1 with the most lovable, hardest working students you will ever meet. Our garden will be up and running with the help of "Team Home Depot," who is supplying us with everything we need to have a garden where we can get fresh vegetables and fruits to eat in our classroom.
