Free Meals for Centennial School District Students for the 2021-22 School Year

This school year, all students in Centennial School District will have access to nutritious meals at school at no cost, thanks to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). 

We do ask that parents of our returning students fill out the free and reduced lunch application.

This is helpful because it helps determine how many families could use additional resources and support, not only for meals, but also community support scholarships, athletics, internet fees, SAT and college entrance admission waivers, and more. Apply here: https://bit.ly/3z1tSBo.

In relation to the CDC Community Levels, masking in Centennial School District, including transportation is as follows:

When our district becomes aware of a COVID-19 positive case or exposure, we follow the Oregon Department of Education’s and Oregon Health Authority’s guidance, in collaboration with Multnomah Educational Service District and Multnomah County Health Department. The Centennial School District will follow the recommendations of the MESD and Multnomah Health Department regarding the need for notifications if an identified cohort has a high number of absences due to illness. We will no longer be notifying based on individual positive cases. 

Notification includes:

• The families of individual students were determined to be “exposed”(as determined by Multnomah County Health). Notification is provided in multiple languages.
• The individual staff members who were “exposed” (as determined by Multnomah County Health)
• The school staff and onsite community partners
• General school notification letter. Notification is provided in multiple languages.

Prior to leaving for school:

• Staff and secondary students can “screen” themselves to ensure they are not demonstrating any of the primary symptoms of COVID-19 (cough, fever [temperature of 100.4°F or higher] or chills, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, or new loss of taste or smell).
• Families of elementary age students are encouraged to visually “screen” their children for any symptoms.

Upon entry to the bus and/or the building, school staff will continue visually screening students to see if a more thorough screening needs to take place.

As students enter classrooms and throughout the day, staff will continue to visually “screen” students to see if there are any changes in behavior that might indicate that a student is not feeling well and might require a more thorough screening.

If students or staff display any of the primary symptoms while onsite,
additional steps will be taken including temperature checks.

As a reminder, students and staff are required to stay home if ill.

These conditions require exclusion from school:

To improve ventilation, the district purchased HEPA air filters for classrooms and areas where students congregate. We have extra HEPA air filters on hand if they need to be replaced at any time.

Also, we are upgrading HVAC air filters and maximizing air flow in spaces by increasing outside air through building ventilation units and opening windows.

Centennial School District will be following the same protocols as last year. We will be cleaning and sanitizing daily, and performing frequent cleaning of high-touch surfaces.

Wearing a well-fitting mask consistently and correctly reduces the risk of spreading the virus that causes COVID-19.

In alignment with Multnomah County Public Health (MCPH), Centennial is utilizing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Community Level tool to determine indoor mask requirements. The tool places communities into three levels - low, medium and high - based on three key weekly indicators.

Information will be shared with students, families, staff and community members if a change in masking occurs. Face coverings will also be available at entrances of our school buildings.

Centennial will continue the practice of advising students, staff and visitors to wash their hands frequently. Hand sanitizer is provided when hand washing is not possible.

Specific times students, staff and visitors are expected to wash hands or use hand sanitizer include: upon entrance to buildings, after using the restroom, before eating, and before and after going to recess.

Centennial follows ODE and OHA guidelines regarding physical distancing. During periods of high transmission, if health guidelines change, Centennial will follow those.

They could include schools supporting physical distancing in all daily activities and instruction, striving for at least 3 feet between students to the extent possible, especially if there is high transmission within the County.

• When it is not possible to maintain a physical distance, staff will continue to layer multiple other prevention strategies including air ventilation, hand washing, offering of vaccination resources, etc.

• Staff will continue to consider physical distancing requirements when setting up learning and other spaces,arranging spaces and groups to allow and encourage physical distance.

• Minimize time standing in lines and take steps to ensure that distance between students is maintained,including marking spacing on the floor, one-way traffic flow in constrained spaces, etc.

• For school events, staff meetings, etc., food would be served outside and CDC masking recommendations would be followed.

Staff are provided district training in COVID-19 awareness, cleaning and disinfecting, and COVID-19 response protocols.
