History of Hickory Ridge Middle School
Original Attendance Boundaries
The Hickory Ridge Middle School boundary was created by taking the area from NC Hwy 49 (south side) from the Mecklenburg County line to Coddle Creek. Coddle Creek/Rocky River (west side) to Rocky River Rd, Rocky River Rd (excludes both sides) to Lower Rocky River Rd and from Lower Rocky River Rd (west side) to Pine Grove Ch Rd (includes both sides) to Flowes St Rd. Flowes St Rd (excludes both sides) from Pine Grove Ch Rd to Ben Black Rd, Flowes St Rd (includes both sides) from Ben Black Rd to NC Hwy 24-27, NC Hwy 24-27 (north side) from Flowes St Rd to the Mecklenburg County line.
The original boundary lines were amended during the first year of the school's operation to include the area north of HWY 49 in the Harrisburg town limits. The redistricting occurred in order to align middle school boundaries with that of the county high schools. HiRMS has had the same attendance boundaries as Hickory Ridge High School since the beginning of its second year.Logo and Maverick Mascot
The Hickory Ridge Middle School Mavericks and logo were proudly introduced to Cabarrus County Schools at a town meeting on May 24, 2010. This mascot was chosen by our first rising 7th and 8th grade classes through a nomination and selection process in the spring of 2010. The school logo was designed to align our school with Hickory Ridge High School which shares the attendance area that we serve. The "H" represents our proximity to the town of Harrisburg and the surrounding communities. The black bull is an exact replica of the Ragin' Bull of Hickory Ridge High School. The grey bull (the maverick) represents Hickory Ridge Middle School as they begin to assert their independence and move out of the shadow of their parent. When viewed collectively, the logo represents the synergy between our two campuses and the community we serve.Original Faculty & Staff
First Open House - August 2010
-
We held our first open house on Friday, August 20, 2010, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. We opened an extra hour to accommodate all the parents and students who were excited to see their new school! Dr. James Carroll, the first Hickory Ridge Middle School principal, was proud to finally open the doors to all and share our beautiful building with the community.
Community Chooses Marvin the Maverick
-
After a community-wide online vote, our mascot finally had a name! Marvin the Maverick beat out the likes of Billy, Rick, Mavy, Maximillian and Toro to become the name of our school's costumed mascot. Marvin sometimes makes an appearance at pep rallies, athletic events, and other special events to get our school community feeling the Maverick spirit!
