Brighton Retirees’ Scholarship Fund

  • At our September 2008 luncheon, the Brighton Central Schools Retirees’ Association (BCSRA) voted unanimously to leave a lasting legacy to the Brighton District, creating the Brighton Retirees’ Scholarship Fund. BCSRA will award an annual scholarship, in perpetuity, to a deserving Brighton High School senior entering the field of education. Administered by the Rochester Area Community Foundation, the scholarship fund began with an initial deposit of $2500. This “acorn” account needs to grow to $25,000 within ten years in order to begin the granting of scholarships.

When any retired employee of the Brighton School District passes away, the Retirees’ Association makes a memorial donation to the scholarship fund. Those donations, plus additional individual contributions have increased the fund to a current balance of $8,000.00. The Retirees’ Association would like to encourage district residents to help us attain our goal of $25,000. Contributions might be made in “memory of”, in “honor of”, or “in celebration of” loved ones or events.  All contributions are tax deductible. Donations (payable to “Brighton Retirees’ Scholarship Fund”) may be mailed directly to the Rochester Area Community Foundation, 500 East Avenue, Rochester, NY 14607.

BCSRA, founded in the fall of 2003, began with just 41 members and today boasts a total membership of over 150. We meet for lunch, a short meeting, and entertainment twice a year. Our newsletter, Prime Times: Chronicles of the Retired and Relaxed, a membership directory, and e-mailed updates help keep our members abreast of important news and events. We welcome all retirees of Brighton Schools to join us. Information about the Brighton Central Schools Retirees’ Association can be found on the district website www.bcsd.org under “Community.
