The purpose of N/D funds is to help provide education continuity for children and youth in juvenile detention centers, so that these youth can continue to receive a quality education and to make successful transitions back to their home school once released from the detention center. Funds are awarded to school districts with high proportions of youth in local correctional facilities for dropout prevention programs for at-risk youth in the institutions or centers.
