    Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students:

I am very excited about being a partner in education with you at Biloxi High School. I expect this year to be a challenging, rewarding, educational, and positive experience that could lead students to an interest in a mathematical field career.

    Classroom Expectations

    • Classroom expectations are detailed in the School-Wide Discipline Plan. Please note that some offenses such as skipping, vulgar language, and physical threats are office referrals outside of normal classroom discipline.

    • Use of a mobile device or web search during testing is strictly prohibited. See the grading section for details.

    Classroom Information

Content: The specific topics and content will be available in Google Classroom, and the pacing guide is located at this link: Geometry Pacing Guide. I will also push out my term calendar link using Parent Square. The calendar serves as an active lesson plan with digital versions of most of what we do in class each day. Early in the school year, I post links to instructional videos of the lessons conducted in class.

After-school tutor option: Students must use the link on the Geometry calendar each Monday and Wednesday to sign up for after-school tutoring. The bus or no bus students must sign up. The tutoring takes place on Tuesday and Thursday. I only plan to stay if a student puts my name as the teacher in the after-school tutoring form. I will not stay if my name does not appear on the published list. There may be issues where I state that I am unable to stay and this will be clear on my Geometry calendar.

Grading: Grades will be updated using the online grading system, SAM Spectra (the district’s online grading platform). Students will be required to monitor their grades. Parents also have access to the online grade system to monitor grades (biloxischools.net grades link). Please feel comfortable emailing me at eric.sanchez@biloxischools.net anytime there is a question about a grade.

    • Test grades will be earned on scheduled days per the class calendar. A test grade of a "2" means the student utilized a mobile device or a web search during a test. A parent conference is required before the student is allowed to make up the test grade. The following steps prevent the "2" in the gradebook. Mobile devices will be placed in the bookbag or on the teacher’s desk if there is no bookbag available. We will also use a lockdown browser to prevent students from opening additional websites during the test. The teacher will use the Classwize website to monitor the Chromebook.

    • Activity grades will be earned by completing activities per the assignment schedule in Google Classroom. Types of activity grades will be a unit or weekly average of "classwork" assignments, noted as "CW1, CW2, etc.", graded assignments, GAs, (a quiz where the teacher can assist), and rare independent quiz grades with no teacher assistance. Additional activity grades may be earned through group projects throughout the unit.

    • Classwork: CW assignments are averaged per unit and sometimes weekly. The  CW assignments close at 8:45am on Test day. The CW assignments will not be reopened. However, test grades can replace an activity grade of the unit.

    • Graded Assignments: GA assignments are closed at the end of class the day they are assigned. Answers are released at the end of the day. Students may stay after school to take an alternate missed graded assignment or use the unit test grade to replace the missed GA grade(s).

    • Missing Grades: Any grades that show up as a “1” in the online grade book mean the student must complete the work.  The “1” significantly lowers the student average until completing the assignment.

    • NM Grades: There are cases where an NM may appear in the grade book. The NM means "no mark" and it will not change the student’s overall grade. Sometimes these appear as placeholders until the grade is entered. It will be communicated if the NM grade will convert to a grade. Refusing to complete work will result in a “1” in the grade book.

Make-up Work: Students will find all the required work in the Classroom Calendar and Google Classroom. Students may work on any activities outside of class as long as they can access the assignments on the internet. The test will be on the Chromebook using the apps loaded by the school district. Tests require a code for students to enter the test. Plan for make-up tests at school or after school.

    General Classroom Expectations:

    • The class will use both electronic and paper delivery. Classwork and notes are typically both paper and digital. The graded assignments and tests are strictly digital.

    • I will email students directly about issues with grades. Parents and administration will be notified via the Bcc line of the email to the student to address the issue as seen fit.

    • Cell phones or other electronic devices can be a distraction if not used properly. We will use the student Chromebook and the classroom systems daily. Cell phones will be the last resort and will only be used upon teacher approval. If phones are causing lower grades, an email will be sent as described in the second bullet above.

Headphones: There are many videos to assist with instruction. Students are permitted to listen to the instructional videos using headphones.  ///END///
