W.E.B. Du Bois Regional Middle School

Week at a Glance, News and Notes

April 28, 2023

Note from the Principal:

We jumped back into school after April break with some serious middle school energy!  This is the time of year where we take advantage of the months of learning and engaging with each other.  Students know how to be a student in their grade, and we are focusing on putting all of the learning this year together with final projects and activities for each grade.

It is also the time of year that grades do end of year field trips and celebrations.  Be on the lookout for information in the next weeks about end of year activities, and especially permission slips–it really helps to get those in early when your kid brings them home.  There will be end of year activities in fifth, sixth and seventh grades, and especially in eighth, where we need to celebrate our oldest as they prepare to move on to high school next year!

Please drop me a note if you have feedback or questions at ben.doren@bhrsd.org

Be well,

Ben Doren

Postural Screening update

On Monday, May 1st, the Health Office and PE teachers will be completing the 2023 postural screenings.  The purpose of the Postural Screening is to identify early signs of potential spinal problems in children in grades 5-9. This is not a diagnostic service, but rather a program to identify those young people who should have further medical evaluation.  The majority of students exhibit no unusual findings in this screening, however, if your child does exhibit anything unusual, you will be notified and asked to take your child to a physician as a precaution. If nothing unusual is found, we will not contact you again until next year’s screening.  Your child may wish to bring a two-piece swimsuit or a halter top and shorts  to school the day of the screening. This type of clothing permits a more accurate observation of the child’s back. I will have additional shirts on hand if needed.  Parents and/or legal guardians can request that their child not participate in this screening. This request must be submitted in writing to the school nurse.  Please remember to send in a copy of your child’s latest physical.  If you have any questions, please contact Nurse Hilary Bashara at 413-644-2324 or hilary.bashara@bhrsd.org.
