W.E.B. Du Bois Regional Middle School
Week at a Glance, News and Notes
February 3, 2023
Note from the Principal:
Student Led Conferences started last week, and we will hold the rest of them this coming week on Wednesday afternoon, February 8, which is also a district half-day. If you had a conference scheduled for Wednesday last week, your student’s Crew Leader or Conference Facilitator already has reached out to confirm the same time for 2/8–or you can see if there is another time available.
For families that completed the conference we are asking for feedback by filling out this quick survey. We got many responses, but really want as many as possible. We want to know how the conference went for your family so we can continue what is working and gain insight on what you think needs to improve. For example, we got a lot of positive feedback on the quality of conferences last year, and also specific feedback about having an in-person conference and more details about classes, which all went into how we approached the conferences this year. Your input helps us make this an experience that works for you.
Please drop me a note if you have feedback or questions at ben.doren@bhrsd.org.
Be well!
Ben Doren

Black History Month themed movies for 7-8th graders
In honor of Black History Month this February, the library will be showing two films, Race (2016) and Just Mercy (2019) with curriculum and thematic tie-ins for our older grades. Movies will be shown over 3 lunch/recess periods, in the library–they will not interrupt class time. Both movies are rated PG-13; students will be asked to sign up in advance. If you have a child under 13 years and do not want your child to see either movie, please let us know by sending an email to Jennifer Guerin, Librarian, at jennifer.guerin@bhrsd.org. Thank you!

Join the monthly Zoom meeting — Wed. Feb. 8th @ 7pm — La reunión mensual de Zoom Mie. Feb. 8 a las 7pm
¡Todos los padres y tutores son bienvenidos! All parents & guardians welcome! We will discuss / Discutiremos:
- *Save The Date / Reserva La Fecha* — March 8th: planning an afternoon event at school, including food & fun activities, for families to learn more about the namesake of our school, Dr. Du Bois, and his work for racial equality and social justice. Crear un evento el 8 marzo de la tarde en la escuela, que incluye comida y actividades divertidas, para que las familias aprendan más sobre el tocayo de nuestra escuela, el Dr. Du Bois, y su trabajo por la igualdad racial y la justicia social.
- Getting more resources for families to talk about screen time, online safety, and using technology in safe and healthy ways. Obtener más recursos para que las familias hablen sobre el tiempo frente a la pantalla, la seguridad en línea y el uso de la tecnología de manera segura y saludable.

REMINDERS:
Message from the Superintendent
Dear BHRSD Families and Staff: I hope you are doing well. We are noticing an uptick in COVID-19 cases, flu, and RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus). Please continue to monitor your children for potential symptoms and reach out to school nurses and/or your own health care providers for advice. If a student doesn’t feel well, please keep them home and consider testing. We have masks available and encourage students and staff to use them. Please notify the school immediately if your student tests positive. They should stay home for 5 days and wear a mask for 5 days upon their return. The school nurses will help on the timelines. Hoping we can navigate this well together. –Peter Dillon, Superintendent
