W.E.B. Du Bois Regional Middle School
Week at a Glance, News and Notes
December 2, 2022
Note from the Principal:
What a whirlwind of a week! There is so much going on at the middle school, between classes, food drives, Crew connections and after-school activities. The middle schoolers have so much great energy. And in case you missed it, we were recognized by the Rural Intelligence website as the “Reader’s Choice” for best Middle School in the county! Thanks to all you families and community folk who lifted us up!! One of the reasons I think you all like us so much is we are forward thinking learning community, always having your kid’s interests and development at heart. This week each of the grades participated in a Portrait of the Graduate activity in the cafeteria during a Crew period. Students looked at the many skills adults will need in the 21st century, and had to whittle the list down to three that they think are most important. We will use this activity to continue to show the students what is important for their future: and in the 21st century, part of that is the skill to evaluate what they think is important, not just what we think it is. Next week I will share a lot about our Student Led Conferences (SLCs) in January–that is a great place for you to hear what your kids have learned and where they want to go as a learner. We are always thinking ahead!
Please drop me a note if you have feedback or questions at ben.doren@bhrsd.org.
Be well!
Ben Doren

REMINDERS:
Message from the Superintendent
Dear BHRSD Families and Staff: I hope you are doing well. We are noticing an uptick in COVID-19 cases, flu, and RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus). Please continue to monitor your children for potential symptoms and reach out to school nurses and/or your own health care providers for advice. If a student doesn’t feel well, please keep them home and consider testing. We have masks available and encourage students and staff to use them. Please notify the school immediately if your student tests positive. They should stay home for 5 days and wear a mask for 5 days upon their return. The school nurses will help on the timelines. Hoping we can navigate this well together. –Peter Dillon, Superintendent
