W.E.B. Du Bois Regional Middle School

Week at a Glance, News and Notes

August 23, 2022

Note from the Principal:

School starts next week!  Our first day of school is Monday, August 29th.  We are ready for you, and are excited for you to settle into school, connect with friends and teachers, and get your locker assignment.   You received a mailing a week or so ago with your schedule, information, and forms for you and your family to return.

Here is a list of the required forms to return:

  • The student information report (see below for instructions)
  • The annual health form

And the optional forms:

  • The “Do Not Publish” and “Do Not Release” forms

And important information:

  • District Calendar
  • School Attendance information
  • PowerSchool Login information for you

Remember, school starts early!  Bus routes are linked below.  Arrival and dismissal are the same as last year: buses drop off students at 7:40 am, and we will start letting students into the school who are dropped off in personal vehicles at 7:40 am too. Our dismissal is at the same time too,  2:40 pm.  Drop off and pick up 5-6 graders in the front circle, and 7-8 graders in the back parking lot (drop off and pick up 7-8 graders with 5 or 6 grade siblings in the front circle together if you have two kids in different grades upstairs and downstairs in the school.).

Important dates are listed below so you have accurate information on events such as the “Family Forum and Community Resource Fair” and the “Meet the Teams” night in September.  Below are some updates and reminders, along with links to summer flyers for community programs and activities.  We will send out another “Summer at a Glance” the week before school starts so you have the information you need to prepare for the first day of school.

I hope you are enjoying these last days of summer!

Please drop me a note if you have feedback or questions at ben.doren@bhrsd.org

Be well!

Student Information Report

It is very important that you review the student information report enclosed in the mailing we sent to you.  Make any necessary changes by crossing out incorrect information and adding updated information.  Then sign the report, whether you have made changes or not.  Please return to the main office before school starts or to your child’s Crew Leader on the first day of school.  We will make any updates in PowerSchool.  On the first day of school you will receive a folder with information and forms, picture packages, and more.

Important Dates

Here are some opportunities to connect with us in the next few weeks and the start of school:

  • Foro Familiar on Tuesday, August 23, 5:30-7:30 pm.  This is a forum in Spanish for elementary and middle school families new or returning to the district.  We will meet at Muddy Brook with everyone at the start, and then come over to the middle school.
  • First Day of School! Monday, August 29, 7:40 am to 2:40 pm.
  • Family Forum and Community Resource Fair on Thursday, September 8, 6:00-7:30 pm.  This is for any family that wants to hear about the school year, programs and opportunities in the community for youth and families.  The principals will give an overview of the school programs from curriculum to student support.  Community partners will share programs for kids and resources for families.  Then open time for folks to talk to the school leaders and the community partners.
  • Meet the Teams evening, Tuesday, September 20, 6:30-8:00 pm.  Join us for an informative evening on the school programs for your child’s grade, meet the educators working with your student, and connect with other families.

Message from Massini Bus Company

Transportation is provided for in district students from home to school and back.  Some students may need to gather at group stops.

Family choice for student name and identity

Massachusetts now allows for families to tell their child’s school to use a different name for a student that is not the same as the name on the birth certificate and other legal documents.  Please use this form to tell us at the middle school that you want us to use a name for your child that is different from the legal documents we have from when you enrolled them at the school or in the district.  We will update our Student Information System, PowerSchool, with the information you tell us to use, so your child’s name appears as you direct.  If this is a legal name change, please provide the documents to us so we can make the update for the legal name of the student.  Email ben.doren@bhrsd.org if you have any questions about this form or this process.
