• Unit 3: Engaging Scenario: Digital Scrapbook—The Search for Identity

Task: High school is a time of reflection, change, and exploration for most students.  Students look back on their earlier years and the changes they have gone through as they begin to explore what they will do with themselves in the future. This is not always an easy process, but putting ideas down in a digital scrapbook can help students come to terms in their search for identity.

Students will create a digital scrapbook using Google Slides.  The scrapbook will focus on students’ past, present, and future by utilizing the following guidelines:

General (You will have a total of 6-12 slides)

    • A title slide that includes an original title for your scrapbook, a current picture of you, and your name (slide 1).
    • An introduction that identifies when and where you were born, who your parents/legal guardians are, and any siblings (slide 2). Feel free to add family photos here.
    • Captions for each picture of yourself identifying your age and what’s happening in the picture.
    • Clipart, sounds, or other images that support what’s happening in the pictures of you or what’s happening in the world that influenced you at the time of the picture. These are in addition to the main pictures you provide on each slide. They are meant to enhance and support the snapshot in time.

Remembering the Past (1-3 slides, 1 picture and paragraph per slide plus additional clipart, sounds, etc.)

    • Choose pictures from your past (middle school or earlier) that are very important to you. They can be positive or negative, but be sure they had a strong effect on your earlier life.
    • Write an IVF Summary Paragraph that explains each main picture and its importance to you.

Living in the Present (1-3 slides, 1 picture and paragraph per slide plus additional clipart, sounds, etc.)

    • Choose pictures from the present that are very important to you. They can be positive or negative, but be sure they reflect how you feel about your life right now.
    • Write an IVF Summary Paragraph that explains each main picture and its importance to you.

Finding Your Future Identity (1-3 slides, 1 image [photo or Internet image] and paragraph per slide plus additional clipart, sounds, etc.)

    • Choose personal photos or Internet images that represent your hopes for your future. These may include education, career, family, personal goals, etc.
    • Write an IVF Summary Paragraph that explains each main picture and its importance to you.

    Conclusion (1 slide)

    • Choose one picture of you that is your very favorite (that you have not already used).
    • Write an Eight Sentence Paragraph that explains why this is your favorite picture of yourself.
