Fluency Activity:

Beat The Clock

This is a fun and exciting game you can do at home to develop vocabulary, fluency and reading stamina. 

Create a list of words.  I like to use 20-30 words the student has read before. 

You can use your child's sight words, Words Their Way words or develop your own list of words from a favorite story you read at home.  

Now here's the fun part!  Your child will try to read the words faster than the time you set on the timer.  

For example: Set the timer for 60 seconds.  Press start and your child begins to read the list of words in less than 60 seconds.  As your child gains fluency you can make the time shorter.
