Mrs. Smith's Homework Expectations

  •

    • Independent Reading- Books will be assigned at your child’s independent reading level. Your child should be reading at least one book nightly and writing down the title of the book on their reading log (found in their daily binder). I will check this daily. When your child is ready, they may take a test on that day. Students will need 50 points by the end of the school year to earn their AR t-shirt.

    • iReady – Your child should log onto iReady and practice at home at least 45 minutes a week, alternating between reading and math. This will begin after initial assessments in school are complete. I will notify you as to when this assignment will begin.

    • Friday Journals– Each Friday, your child will be writing a letter sharing some things that they learned in class that week. Please ask your child to share their writing with you. It is also encouraged that you write a response back to them. Your child will love to hear from you! Journals should be sent back to school on Monday.

    • Popcorn Books (sight word review) – In second grade, students are expected to master 800 sight words by the end of the year in order to be on grade level. As students master ALL of the words on their lists they are asked to place their books into our classroom popcorn bucket to be checked. This will be their responsibility to do so when they are ready. Ideally, Popcorn Books should be turned in for review weekly.

    • Please note that any unfinished classwork may also be assigned for homework as well.
