What is Title 1?
Title 1 is the largest federally funded program in education. It provides financial assistance to local educational agencies for children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. Warsaw Elementary School receives money for Title 1 services. With this funding comes responsibilities and commitments.
Warsaw Elementary School is committed to using Federal Title 1 funds to assist students in meeting state achievement standards. We will provide our families and community with important information about the law and your child(ren)’s education throughout the year. We are committed to addressing your request for information about the qualifications of classroom staff working with your child(ren).
At Warsaw Elementary, we are proud of our teachers and staff, and we are confident that they are prepared to give your child a high-quality education. As a Title 1 school, we must meet federal regulations regarding teacher qualifications as defined by ESEA. These regulations allow you to learn more about your child(ren)’s teacher training and credentials. At any time you may ask:
- Whether the teacher met state qualifications and certification requirements for the grade level and subject they are teaching.
- Whether the teacher received an emergency or conditional certificate through which state qualifications were waived, and
- What undergraduate or graduate degrees does the teacher hold, including graduate certificates, additional degrees and major(s) or areas of concentration.
You may also ask whether your child receives help from a paraprofessional. If your child receives this assistance, we can provide you with information about the paraprofessional’s qualifications.
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) which was signed into law in December 2015, includes additional right-to know requests. At any time, parents can request the following:
- Information on policies regarding student participation in assessments and procedures for opting out, and
- Information on required assessments that include:
- Subject matter tested
- Purpose of the test
- Sources of the Requirement (if applicable)
- Amount of time it takes students to complete the test,
- Time and format of disseminating results
The staff at Warsaw Elementary School is committed to helping your child(ren) develop into the best learner possible. It is our goal to support their success in academics and critical thinking while they are in school and beyond. We are committed to ensuring that our teachers and paraprofessionals all meet rigorous New York State requirements.
