The Vestavia Hills High School Science Department offers a variety of courses in the life and physical sciences designed to fit the needs of our diverse student population.  Several levels of courses are available to ensure that each student will be challenged, but successful during his/her high school career.  All students begin with either biology or honors biology and then progress through the science curriculum according to their interests and abilities.  State-of-the-art technology is incorporated into the classroom and the lab portion of each course, regardless of its level. 

Four Advanced Placement courses (AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, and AP Physics) are available to students who wish to pursue the most challenging science courses offered at the high school level.  The average scores on the science AP exams are above state and national levels.  Also, the average ACT science reasoning score of our students is above state and national levels.

The faculty of the Science Department consists of twenty-three teachers who constantly strive to incorporate the latest technology and methodology into each course and work together to bring the best possible science experience to our students.
