Our goal at Vestavia Hills Elementary Cahaba Heights is to ensure that all students develop a love of reading and read proficiently. Proficient readers are better able to master academic content, succeed in school and reach their life potential. Vestavia Hills Elementary Cahaba Heights is an Alabama Reading Initiative site. Language Arts instruction at VHECH is based on five essential components of reading.
They are:

- Fluency
- Vocabulary
- Comprehension
Vestavia Hills City Schools have adopted the reading series
Wonders, published by McGraw Hill, for Grades K-5. In addition, teachers use a variety of other resources to enhance Language Arts instruction.
