Northwest Justice Program is providing free legal services for those impacted by Covid, these services are available in the following counties: Yakima, Kittitas, Okanogan, Douglas, Chelan, Grant, and Adams. These services are available for the Latino and Native American community members who have been hospitalized or have experienced a death in the family due to COVID and who are now facing legal issues. As I am certain you are aware, these communities have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic.
With regards to the legal assistance available, the legal issues that present can be anything such as:
- debt collections including landlord/ housing related debt (rent and mortgage)
- medical debt, credit card, auto debt
- access to relief and traditional benefit programs
- housing conditions
- health care access
- unemployment, workmen’s compensation issues
- educational interruption and special education needs
- Dept. of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) investigation and involvement
- or any other legal problem that stemmed from the hospitalization or death of a family member
