English Language Development
-
Our English Language Development (ELD) program addresses the needs of students who come from linguistically and culturally diverse backgrounds. Approximately 32% of the student population in the Toppenish School district are identified English Language Learners (ELL). As a district, classroom instruction integrates English language development with academic content learning using English as the language of instruction. Teachers use instructional strategies to support both academic grade-level content and English language development. The common purpose is to provide our English learners with meaningful access to curriculum and content, in order to meet the state standards.
