A final reminder to seniors - January 15 is the online application deadline for the Hartford Foundation College Scholarship Program. This program awards 50 renewable $3,000 scholarships to graduating seniors who live in the Greater Hartford region, are entering a 4 year college or university full time, rank in the top third of their class, are active in their school and community, and have financial need. Attention Seniors: The next opportunity to give your Capstone presentation is on Tuesday, January 23. In advance of this date, you must sign up to reserve a slot to make your presentation. Sign up on the Google form that is now available under “The Capstone Experience” on the SWHS website. Sign-ups take place now through January 10. Students who have not signed up by January 10 will have changes made to their second semester schedules. If you are unable to present your Capstone project on January 23 due to special circumstances, you must get advance approval from Associate Principal, Ms. Morgan-Hostetler, to avoid second semester schedule changes.
We would like to close our morning announcements today with a second moment of silence. On December 28th after a long, courageous battle with Leukemia Ali Pahore passed away. Ali was a member of the Class of 2020 and the South Windsor High School Symphonic Band. Ali was a well-liked student who always helped others smile, and will be deeply missed. We ask all members of our school community to keep Ali's family and friends in their thoughts and prayers.

South Windsor High School alumnae who are now student representatives for Emmanuel College and Pace University will be in the Career Center to meet with interested students this week. The Emmanuel College student will visit on Thursday at 10:30am and the student from Pace University will visit Friday at 10am. Both visits are listed in Naviance.

The SWHS Mock Trial team competed in the regional round of the state competition over the last two weeks. Despite strong performances, the team split its case presentations and did not advance to the quarterfinals. Thanks to all who participated in this great activity and best of luck to our senior lawyers: Asli Awale, Hannah Liebowitz and Bazila Munir!
The online application deadline for the Hartford Foundation College Scholarship Program is January 15. Go to http://www.hfpgscholarships.org to search an entire database of funds. Basic criteria include living in the Greater Hartford Region, entering a 4 year college or university full-time, ranking in the top third of your class, active in school or community, and having financial need. Up to 50 renewable awards of $3,000 are given annually. The Hartford Foundation site also lists additional scholarships for students planning to attend 2 year college programs as well as individual scholarships with deadlines into February. The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Hartford Alumnae Chapter has opened the application process for its 2018 scholarships. Awards are available for female, African-American students with at least a 3.0 GPA and involvement in community service.
