CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES: 

                             

The HOPE Club will meet on Thursday, February 27th,  after school in the Seminar Room. It's American Heart Month, so come participate in a trivia game to show your knowledge of the cardiovascular system - you will learn new things and prizes will be awarded! We will also practice taking vital signs and using medical equipment. All are welcome. For more information, see our Google Classroom or flyers posted around the school.

 

The Black Student Alliance proudly presents its 3rd Annual Black History Month Fair! The Black History Month Fair will bring "The Cookout" experience to SWHS by showcasing the rich cultures represented within the BSA (African, African American, Caribbean, and Afro-Latinx). Join us on Wednesday, February 26 in the Cafeteria from 2:15-3:45 for a vibrant celebration of Black culture, history, food, and community!

 

Looking for a way to make a difference? Heart in Hands is a new club that creates STEM-themed care packages for pediatric patients who miss school due to healthcare issues. Join us for our first meeting on Thursday, March 6th, from 2:00-2:45 PM in Room 262 to learn more or join our Google Classroom with code gkww2jo 

 

The next French club meeting will be on Thursday, February 27th right after school in Room 227. We'll be talking about club positions and watching a movie. Please see Bhaavni Krishna or Hasi Ponnathota or Mr. Ly for more information. Snacks will be provided

 

The Unified for Underprivileged Girls club is having a fundraiser this Friday, February 28th at the Sweet Frog from 5:00pm-8:00pm. Just mention UUG at the check out and 20% of all proceeds will be donated towards the club!

ATHLETICS:

 

Spring Sports registration is now open. If you plan on trying out for a spring sport, please be sure to register online. Registration is not complete until you have submitted the online registration, a valid physician statement and the pay-for-play fee. Registration deadline is March 12th. Late registrations are not guaranteed to be processed in time for tryouts. See Mrs. Zaino or Mrs. McLaughlin with any questions. 

 

Attention all boys interested in trying out for the tennis team! There will be an important meeting in Coach Tyler’s room—Room 200—on Wednesday, February 26th. Come learn about tryouts, the season schedule, and what it takes to be part of the team.

 

The Girls Golf team will have an informational meeting this Thursday February 27th in room 135 from 2:05-2:30 PM. For more information join the google classroom with code VZXY7T3

Also, wear a hat and pajamas to show your support for Connecticut Children’s on Wednesday, February 26th and bring $1 to your Bobcat Block teacher. All proceeds from these events go directly to Connecticut Children's Medical Center, so please participate.

Your opportunity to audition for the award-winning show choir Choral Spectrum is here! Auditions will take place on February 20th at 6 PM in the Auditorium. To audition, you need to attend the in-person audition and also complete an online vocal audition—both are required. All audition materials and details can be accessed using class code: qeotvrl. Choral Spectrum is an honors-level class that counts toward your arts credit for graduation while giving you the opportunity to perform at an elite level. For more information, see Mr. Martineau in the Music Department. 

 

The annual South Windsor Patriotic Commission Essay contest is underway. For students in grades 9 – 12 the theme is “What it means to be an American.” Completed essays should be 500 words or less and submitted by Friday, March 7th. All submissions should be made on the South Windsor Patriotic Commission’s website—please visit the site for more details.

Join us to hear from a neuroradiologist about why you should consider this competitive field, and what you can do to prepare for college, grad school, and beyond. The Cooking Club will be celebrating Lunar New Year and Valentine's Day on Thursday, February 20th in Room 105 at the High School from 2:05 PM-4:00 PM. We will make: Cupid's Love Potion Punch, Vegetable Spring Rolls, Chicken Lo Mein, Lunar New Year Peanut Cookies, Strawberry White Chocolate Blondie Bars and Cupid Cloud Dessert. Please bring $5 to Sra. Ruiz in Annex Room 56 or to Sra. Hwang in Annex Room 37.

Castles do not only exist in Europe. This Thursday, explore the fascinating world of Samurai Castles all over Japan, their historical significance, as well as accompanying vocabulary. Likewise, eating Japanese food, we will discuss ideas for this year’s Multicultural Fair. The Japanese Culture Club is open to all.

Choral Spectrum competed in their first competition of the season at the New England Show Choir Spectacular Tantasqua Regional High School. The group was awarded a gold medal and placed third overall. Congratulations to everyone involved on a great start of the season!
