Our SWHS COLLEGE FAIR finally returns on Thursday, October 20th. Over 120 colleges, universities, trade schools and career programs will be set up in the gym on Thursday morning. Students in grades 10-12 will attend in assigned waves and will receive a College Fair Packet in their Homerooms next week.
The Hartford Region Open Choice Program and CREC are offering bus transportation to a HBCU College Fair in New York City on Saturday, November 12th. Students who are in 11th grade and in the Open Choice program and any 12th grade student interested in the fair are invited to attend. The first wave of Capstone presentations is right around the corner, on Wednesday October 12th during the PSAT block. In order to present in this wave, you must have all written work submitted to your adviser’s Google Classroom by Monday October 3rd. All of your work must receive a score of successful or highly successful. You will sign up to present by filling out a Google Form that will be posted on the Capstone Website. A schedule with presentation times and room assignments will be posted on the Capstone Website by Friday October 7th. Students who present during this wave are eligible for an honor cord.

Unified for Underprivileged Girls is hosting a fundraiser on Friday, October 7th from 4pm to 8pm at a local bakery/restaurant on Hemlock Avenue. All proceeds will be donated to underprivileged girls in Kenya.

COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER:
Junior or Senior students interested in attending the United States Senate Youth Program should speak to Mrs. Carty as soon as possible about how to be considered for a school nomination. Two students from Connecticut will ultimately be selected to attend the Washington Week in March. In order to be eligible, students must not have previously attended the program and must be an elected officer of a schoolwide or statewide organization or a student representative selected by a panel, commission, regional or state-level civic or educational organization. Come to the Career Center to indicate your interest, ask any questions, and find out how you can apply to be a SWHS nominee.

SCHOOL NEWS:
The first wave of Capstone presentations is right around the corner, on Wednesday October 12th during the PSAT block. In order to present in this wave, you must have all written work submitted to your adviser’s Google Classroom by Monday October 3rd. All of your work must receive a score of successful or highly successful. You will sign up to present by filling out a Google Form that will be posted on the Capstone Website. A schedule with presentation times and room assignments will be posted on the Capstone Website by Friday October 7th. Students who present during this wave are eligible for an honor cord.

Academic Support Club meets every Monday through Thursday, from 2pm to 3:30pm in Room 122A. If you need help with your homework, please join! We will have NHS tutors there to help you each day. Join the SWHS Gymnastics Team! The pre-season meeting will be Friday, September 30th at 6:30pm in Room 102 at SWHS. Tickets for the South Windsor High School Varsity Football game this Friday @ Manchester High School are available for purchase online. Go to the SWHS Athletic Website home page for this link to purchase tickets through Go Fan. A reminder not to activate your tickets until Manchester personnel does this for you at the ticket gate or it will non-validate your ticket. All students must have their school ID with them as well.
