Degrees/Credentials: BA in English from The College of Wooster, Multiple Subject Teaching Credential through Chico State University, Language Development Specialist Certificate (now known as CLAD-Crosscultural Language Development Certificate)
Experience: began teaching in 1988 and taught or worked in other education-related positions ever since, including Educational Consultant for Creative Publications and McGraw-Hill and Director of Educational Programs for a Sonoma Valley non-profit; have been working at Flowery since 2007
Special Interests: spending time with my family, reading, decorating my home and rearranging the furniture, being outdoors, knitting, taking pictures and making photo books
What does the Academic Specialist do?
- Teaches 4th and 5th grade ELD classes
- Teaches 4th and 5th grade intervention classes
- Oversees process of reclassification of ELL students
- Supports teachers with materials, curriculum and instructional strategies
- Provides professional development for teachers
- Coordinates testing
- Collects and tracks data on student achievement
- Assists with implementation of school-wide discipline plan
- Is a member of COST (Coordination of Services Team) and Leadership team
- Serves as Teacher-In-Charge when Principal is away
- Assists with school website updates
- Organizes Dual Immersion Kindergarten Information Night
- Coordinates Annual Senior Recognition Event
- Organizes and facilitates Kindergarten Parent Orientation meetings
- Writes press releases
- Serves on district committees
- Researches and implements new technologies and resources that support student learning
