New Home to School Transportation Service Expands to serve more schools at SMUSD!
Thanks to new state funding, five schools initially qualified to receive free transportation for low-income families with students who live one mile or more from our school.
Due to demand for services, we have been able to now expand bus service to additional schools.
Schools who are now eligible for home-to-school bus service are: Discovery Elementary, Double Peak School, Knob Hill Elementary, Joli Ann Leichtag Elementary, La Mirada Academy, Paloma Elementary, Richland Elementary, San Marcos Elementary, and Twin Oaks Elementary.
This means that if you live more than one mile away from your school, your child can take the school bus to and from school every day beginning in the 2023-24 school year.
Some families may qualify to ride the bus to school for free, while others may need to purchase low-cost bus passes, see details below.
Not sure if you qualify? Click here to fill out the free/reduced lunch form which could also qualify your student to ride the bus for free.
How to Sign-Up for Home-to-School Transportation
To sign up for the new transportation service and to ensure you qualify, you will need to fill out an application form NOW AVAILABLE on the website here.
Additionally, there will also be a list of multiple bus stops for each school, so you will be able to choose the bus stop closest to your home. The Transportation team has selected these stops carefully to ensure they are convenient for everyone.
Can My Student Still Ride the Bus If We Don’t Qualify for Free Transportation?
We understand that not all families will meet the requirements for free transportation. If your student attends one of the nine schools mentioned above but you don't qualify for free transportation service, there is an option to purchase bus passes. Please click here for bus pass purchase details.
