Richmond City School Board Votes to Extend Superintendent Kamras’ Contract Four Years
The Richmond City School Board voted 8-1 to extend Superintendent Jason Kamras’s contract four years, through June 30, 2029.
Kamras joined Richmond Public Schools on February 1, 2018, and this will be his third contract.

“The Richmond City School Board has voted to extend Superintendent Jason Kamras’s contract for an additional four years.
This decision was made after careful consideration of multiple factors, including academic outcomes, leadership through pivotal challenges, and progress toward district-wide goals. The majority of the Board believes this is the right step forward to ensure continued momentum and stability across Richmond Public Schools under Superintendent Kamras’s leadership.
During Superintendent Kamras’ tenure, RPS has made measurable gains in school accreditation, early literacy, and graduation rates. These outcomes reflect a foundation we intend to build on in the years ahead.
Looking forward, the Board has set ambitious goals, including 100 percent of third graders reading on grade level and a significant increase in on-time graduation. We are equally committed to cultivating Virginia’s premier educator workforce and modernizing school facilities to serve 21st-century learners. Superintendent Kamras will play a key role in advancing these efforts.
This extension reflects a continued partnership, but also reinforces our commitment to accountability. The full Board is united in holding Superintendent Kamras to high standards over the next four years to ensure our vision for excellence is realized.
