Recognizing the fundamental importance of mathematics in students' education and future careers, the Georgia Department of Education is honoring schools showing exceptional achievement or growth in math as Georgia Math Leaders.

Rabun County High School and Rabun County Middle School were proudly recognized as Georgia Math Leader Schools!

We were also honored to welcome Dr. April Aldridge, GaDOE Deputy Superintendent of Teaching & Learning, to our campus as part of the celebration. Her visit shines a spotlight on the outstanding efforts of our educators and the hard work of our students.

Each year, school districts in Northeast Georgia’s Pioneer RESA area honor an individual who has a strong commitment to improving educational outcomes for students with disabilities by presenting the Philip Wright Award.

The award is given in the name of Philip Wright, who created a legacy of service in this area. Each regional education service agency district selects an individual who exemplifies service, deep respect, regard, commitment, and advocacy for children with special needs.

This year, Mandy Garcia was chosen as the RCSS Phillip Wright Award recipient. Mrs. Garcia teaches special education at Rabun County Primary School.

Congratulations Mrs. Garcia!

We are excited to announce that RCSS has partnered with Varsity Tutors for Schools to provide students with online learning resources for grades K-12.

The Varsity Tutors Platform allows students to learn at their own pace. 24/7 on-demand chat tutoring and on-demand essay review are live tutoring resources to help students with homework, classwork, or test prep questions. Live group classes, recorded classes, and celebrity-led StarCourses allow students to learn more about the subjects they’re interested in, and add a touch of fun. Assessments and self-study practice problems provide opportunities to drill skills toward mastery. College prep & admissions resources are also available for high school students moving to the next level.

The graphics below provide detailed information about the product and what it offers.  Students can access this resource beginning January 3, 2025, through their district login page.

The Rabun County School System is proud to announce that Dr. Kandi Fisher has been selected to serve on the Georgia Department of Education's Teacher Policy Fellowship (TPF).

The Teacher Policy Fellowship is a prestigious nine-month professional learning program that introduces classroom teachers to public education policy and policymaking. Fellows will engage in seminars, conversations, and projects focused on policy design and implementation. Participants will hear from policymakers, legislators, decision-makers, and education experts from the Georgia Department of Education while examining the broader political landscape in which education policy is developed.

Throughout the program, fellows will:

~Learn how education priorities are advanced at the state legislative level;

~Identify key stakeholders shaping education policy;

~Establish relationships with decision-makers at the local and state levels;

~Participate in high-quality policy workshops;

~Engage in meaningful discourse with leaders in Georgia and federal education policy;

~Stay updated on education bills during the legislative session; and

~Use evidence-based research to create their own policy proposals.

The fellowship uses a blended virtual and face-to-face learning approach, allowing teachers to continue their classroom responsibilities. Additionally, participants will travel to Washington, D.C., in the spring to study education policy at the federal level.

Dr. Fisher currently teaches at Rabun County Elementary School. Congratulations to Dr. Kandi Fisher on this well-deserved recognition!
