British and Post-Colonial Literature

Course Description: English 3 is a five-credit survey course that covers the British Tradition in Literature. Students will read analyze, respond to and discuss British Literature and its main themes and authors. Students will also continue to develop their writing skills and their use of the writing process. Also included will be preparation for standardized tests such as the NJSLA, the SAT and the ACT.

  • Macbeth by William Shakespeare
  • Jekyll and Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson
  • Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahari
If you are eligible for AP Language and Composition, additional books include:

  • Brave New World
  • Pride and Prejudice
  • Gulliver's Travels
  • Heart of Darkness
  • Things Fall Apart
**This is the year that most students prepare for the SAT and ACT.  Students partake in serious preparation for these exams, along with completing the literary requirements of the course.
