Prekindergarten Income Verification for the National School Lunch Program

In order for a child to qualify for Prekindergarten, at least one of the following qualifications must be met and documented.
Qualification 1 - Bilingual/ESL – eligible after Home Language Survey is completed, Oral Language Proficiency Test is administered and LPAC committee gives final approval

Qualification 2 - Military–eligible when parent presents proper military identification

Qualification 3 - Foster Care – eligible when proof is presented that the child is or has ever been in the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services as a foster child 

Qualification 4 - Homeless – eligible when identified by the PISD Homeless Liaison

 If your child did not qualify for participation in the Prekindergarten program based on one of the four qualifications listed above. In order to qualify under the Educationally Disadvantaged qualifier, you must provide documentation to verify the income of your household.  Income documentation must be dated no more than 2 months before the student’s first day of enrollment.  One of the following types of income verification is acceptable.

Educationally Disadvantaged– Student is eligible when it is determined the student qualifies to participate in the National School Lunch Program with one of the options below.

 

Option 1 - Participation in the food stamp program

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION

  • § SNAP Case Number /EDG#: __________________________________  (Lone Star Card account numbers are not acceptable SNAP case numbers.)
  • § AND, A copy of ONE of the following:
    • Award/Authorization Letter (Mailed to family when benefits are approved)
    • TIERS Print Out (Can be obtained at Workforce Solution)

 

Option 2 - Family receives TANF

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION

  • TANF Case Number: _________________________________  
  • AND, A copy of ONE  of the following:
    • Award/AuthorizationLetter (Mailed to family when benefits are approved)
    • Form H1009 (Can be obtained from  Texas Health and Human Services Commission)
    • TIERS Print Out (Can be obtained at Workforce Solution)

 

Option 3 - Income verification

 

  Al lfamily income must be included.            

  • Gross earnings (before deductions – wages, salaries, tips, unemployment compensation, self-employment, etc…)
  • Payments from welfare,child support, alimony, pensions, retirement, social security
  • Any other income(disability benefits, interest/dividends, etc…)

 

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION FOR EARNINGS (WAGES AND SALARY) INCLUDE (one only required):

  • Current paycheck stub
  • Current pay envelope
  • Letter from employer stating gross wages paid and how often they are paid
  • Unemployment, Worker’s Compensation or Disability payment stub
  • Acceptable documentation for self-employment income include:
    •  Business or farming documents, such as ledger books and/or self-issued paycheck stub
