October Principal's Pen

The 2023-24 school year is moving quickly and we have completed the first six weeks of the school year and look forward to a great fall. We want to recognize our CTHS FFA and Archery teams for participating in the Pasadena Livestock Show and Rodeo Parade. Our CTHS Archery team received the Billy Graham Spirit Award for their float entry in the parade. Our CTHS FFA received a $5200 National FFA Organization Grants for Growing award with $200 to be used toward a day of service with the Houston Food Bank and $5000 toward our CTHS greenhouse and garden projects. Our CTHS ESports teams are up and running with the CTHS Demacian Knights competing in League of Legends competition and the CTHS Black Knights competing in Rocket League play.

It is already time to begin thinking about the 2024-25 school year with our counselors meeting with students and making class presentations to guide students with course selections for next year. Our eighth grade recruiting efforts begin on October 4 as eighth grade students from across our district will be coming to CTHS for a presentation and a tour led by our Student Ambassadors. We will host over 4,000 eighth grade students in October and host our annual eighth grade parent night on November 2 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. The 24-25 CTHS application is available online at www.pasadenaisd.org and will be open from October 2 – January 7, 2024.

Students in grades 8-11 attending Pasadena ISD schools can apply online and out-of-district students may pick up a paper application at the CTHS reception desk. All applications must be submitted by January 8, 2024.

Our teachers will be in staff development sessions on Thursday, October 5 and students and staff will enjoy a fall break holiday on Friday, October 6 and Monday, October 9. On Wednesday, October 11, Pasadena I.S.D., along with Deer Park I.S.D., La Porte I.S.D. and First Baptist Christian Academy, will participate in the annual College Night at Deer Park High School South Campus. Representatives from colleges and universities across the state and nation will be on hand to visit with students and their families and share important information.

On Friday, October 13, CTHS will host the Harris County Health Services for Meningitis Vaccination Clinic for seniors and juniors wishing to receive this vaccine. The cost is $20 and forms must be completed in advance to reserve a vaccine. Forms and information are available in the CTHS clinic or by contacting Nurse Woods.

On Thursday, October 26, CTHS students will be participating in the College Board’s national examinations with our 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students taking the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) and our 12th grade students taking the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). The 11th grade PSAT is the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) and seniors will have another opportunity to improve their SAT score before their early college applications are due. Please encourage your student to participate fully in these exams and take advantage of the opportunities afforded by these examinations.

Red Ribbon Week rounds out October at CTHS during the week of October 23-31. Our CTHS student council has some exciting spirit opportunities for students and staff for the week. We will host the induction ceremonies for the National Honor Society on Tuesday, October 24 at 6:30 p.m. and for the National Technical Honor Society on Thursday, October 26 at 6:30 p.m. in our lobby. We have many outstanding students who have earned their membership in these two prestigious organizations. On Friday, October 27, we will host our annual Fall Festival from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at CTHS for our students. Student clubs and organizations will have clubs and booths, games, food, and a dance. Tickets will go one sale later this month and must be purchased in advance. Proceeds from this festival benefit the Senior Class of 2024 and the clubs and organizations on our campus. Thank you for your continued support of all that we have going on at CTHS. Happy fall ya’ll!
