Lewis CTHS auto-collision students win big at Houston area ‘Top Tech Challenge’

Three students from the Lewis Career and Technical High School (CTHS) placed in the top five during the 2020 Collision Repair Top Tech Challenge hosted by Universal Technical Institute (UTI) – Houston.   A leading school for automotive, diesel and collision repair, UTI hosts the annual event to provide high school students with the opportunity to earn scholarships. The events are held at multiple UTI campuses nationwide. 

This year, UTI’s Houston Top Tech Challenge competition included roughly 50 students from about 30 high schools in Texas and Louisiana. 

Lewis CTHS students said they were eager to participate and they did not disappoint. Lewis CTHS students were among the top winners at the competition. Here are the first, third and fifth place winners:

Alfredo Rodriguez – 1st place winning a $10,000 UTI scholarship

Bryan Venegas – 3rd place winning a $5,000 UTI scholarship

Christian Acosta – 5th place winning a $1,000 UTI scholarship

As an added bonus, the winners received $5,150 in prizes from Snap-On Tools for their high school. The Snap-On prizes included tool boxes and tool sets for CTHS’ automotive collision repair program. These tool sets will assist in the training of even more students enrolled in the CTHS automotive collision repair program. The automotive collision repair program is part of the transportation & shipping academy at CTHS.
