Pasadena Memorial’s Timothy Tran was recently selected by the Texas Association of School Principals (TASSP) as a member of the TASSP All-State Academic Excellence team.

One of only 20 high school seniors in the state to be selected, Tran will receive a $500 scholarship and be recognized at the TASSP Summer Workshop in Austin on June 13.

“I was very surprised when I received the email telling me I was selected,” said Tran. “I am so honored to be recognized and to even be in the conversation of something that so few are selected for.”

To be selected for the prestigious award, students are nominated by a campus administrator based on their SAT or ACT scores, grade point average, pursuit of advanced diploma and other evidence of exceptional academic ability. Additionally, the nominees are required to write a 300-500 word essay to submit with their application.

Tran said he was grateful to his teachers and administrators at PMHS for helping him in the application process and for preparing him for college.

“I used to be really shy and quiet, but the teachers here have helped me get out of my comfort zone,” said Tran. “I’ve learned to speak my mind, ask for help and not to be afraid. Being able to do that has really helped me learn and understand the materials.”

Upon his high school graduation, Tran plans to attend the University of Texas to major in Biology, with the hopes of pursuing a career in dentistry.
