Pasadena ISD is joining school districts across the nation
in celebrating National School Counseling Week, Feb. 1-5, which recognizes
school counselors for making a positive impact on students and helping them
achieve success and plan their careers.
Sponsored by the American School Counselor Association
(ASCA), the theme for this year’s observance is “School Counselors: All in for All Students.”
“School counseling programs help to increase student
achievement and provide much-needed resource[s] for students, parents, teachers
and administrators. School counselors are integral to student success,” said
Jill Cook, ASCA executive director.
School counselors have the unique task of examining
students’ abilities, strengths, interests and talents and focusing on positive
ways to enhance students’ academic and social/emotional development. Their
guidance often helps students realize their potential.
School counselors are certified, experienced educators with
a master’s degree in school counseling. This powerful combination of training
and experience makes counselors an integral part of the total education
program.
This week more than 100,000 school counselors will be
participating in the festivities nationwide.
