What is AIS Math?

AIS stands for Academic Intervention Services.  It is simply extra help for students who may need assistance in math.  Services can be extra support provided in the classroom during instruction.  Most often students are pulled out of their classrooms during a non-essential time during the day for assistance.  That extra help is usually given in a small group varying in size from 3 - 5 students.  During that time the AIS teacher is able to focus very specifically on skills that are being taught in the classroom and review with the students areas they may be stuggling with.  Students may come to the AIS room 2, 3,4 or 5 times per week depending on their needs.

AIS math does not keep grades on your child.  All grades will be given by the regular classroom teacher.  I will, however, provide parents with a quarterly report on their child's progress.  We follow a quarter system, so reports may not line up perfectly with your child's report card or progress report.  (We actually follow the middle and high school quarterly reporting periods).

I encourage you to contact me at any time that you may have questions or concerns.  Communication between home and school has proven to be a very effective way to help children succeed.  I typically will not assign homework to your child.  I may have suggestions of things you could work with at home to help strengthen your child's math skills.
