• Dear Students/ Parent Guardians:

continue to progress for your recorder belts.... please make sure to practice each of the pages like we do in class.

    1.  Say the note names.

    2.  Say the note names and practice the fingerings on the recorder.

    3.  Play the song with correct rhythm, keeping a steady pace.

    4.  If you can play the song and record a video of yourself and send it to me I can let you know if you have earned the next belt or what you need to work on.

    5.  If the file is "too big" to upload to the site, then we can set up a time for me to call and listen to or google meet with the student to hear the song.

    6.  If you can not record the song and send me a video NO PROBLEM..... I  will listen to students play their songs as time allows when I am in the buildings.

**  If you own your recorder but do not have it at home don't forget to pick it up from school.  Students without a recorder of their own, are encouraged to practice the fingering on a ruler or by using the cardboard tube left from a roll of Paper towels.  But at the least you should be able to write down the letter names of the notes on a sheet of paper for review.

IF you do not have a recorder, but would like to practice fingerings for the notes, here are some simple steps to make a "practice" one for home:

    1. Gather the following:  1 cardboard paper towel tube, 1 pair of scissors, 1 ruler, 1 Marker (any color)

    2.  Using the ruler, put "dots" on the front of the tube in a straight line .  The dots should be about a 1/2 inch apart .  There should be a total of 7 dots

    3.  Using the scissors, poke a hole through the tube on each dot.

    4.  On the back of the tube (across from the first hole) put another dot and poke a hole through it.

This will give you a pretend recorder that you can practice the fingerings for the notes on.  When you "play it" sing and say the note names through the tube, while using your fingers to cover the correct holes for the notes.  Titles in Bold are links to a video to help you practice.

Please remember that if you have any questions you can check out Quaver recorder section or ask me in class!  Have fun!
