Accelerated Reader

  • Accelerated Reader Junior English

    Mrs. Rabideau

    Requirements:

    1. Over the course of the year, read EIGHT Accelerated Reader (AR) titles and complete EIGHT AR quizzes.
    2. EACH quarter—two AR books must be read and two quizzes passed BY the due dates listed below.
    3. EACH quarter one book from the “classics” list must be read.  One book of the student’s choice must also be read.  The order does not matter each quarter as long as two books have been read, one from each category.
    4. You must score a minimum of 70% on each AR quiz to pass for student’s choice.  65% is not passing for student’s choice.  You MAY defend answers to me to earn points—you must, however, ensure you know what you’re talking about, or points WILL NOT be rewarded.
    5. You must score a minimum of 60% on the “classics” book quiz to pass.  You MAY defend answers to me to earn points—you must, however, ensure you know what you’re talking about, or points WILL NOT be rewarded.
    6. If you fail to reach the minimum required score, no problem.  Simply read another AR book and pass the quiz before the due dates each quarter.  If you are anxious about passing, don’t wait until the last minute to take the quiz.  You may not retake quizzes, so read carefully.
    7. You must choose books above a book level of 5—they are clearly listed in the AR computer database.  If there is a book you are interested in reading below level 5, simply come see me and I will hopefully be able to approve it for you.  Also, the point level and book level must add up to more than 10.
    8. You are not allowed to take an AR quiz until granted permission by Mrs. Rabideau.  Quizzes must be taken in Mrs. Rabideau’s presence.  Students not granted permission to take a quiz WILL NOT receive credit for a passing grade.
    9. You MUST complete the AR listing in the class/period folder that Mrs. Rabideau has at the time and date the quiz was taken!  Failure to do so, could impact your grade.
    10. Actually read the book.  The quizzes are designed to ensure students are actually reading the books, not simply reading over Spark Notes.  Most often students admit to skipping pages, spacing out when reading, or trying to read a little.  It just doesn't work.  Ask ANYONE familiar with the program.
    11. Books that have been made into movies are not allowed, unless listed in the “classics” section.  (Please see list of books not allowed.  Pay attention, as books may be added throughout the year!)
    12. You may take all quizzes at the beginning of the year if you have read your eight books for the year.  You may NOT read and take all quizzes at the end of the year.  You must read at least one classic per quarter! Please plan accordingly!
    13. You may NOT choose a title that was assigned in previous English classes—even if you didn't read it.
    14. You may NOT choose to reread a book from a quiz that you took in previous years, regardless of the score earned.
    15. You may NOT choose to reread a book that you have already taken a quiz on, regardless of the score earned.
