Clubs

Student Clubs

There are several reasons why students should consider joining clubs at school:

  • To explore interests: Clubs offer students the opportunity to explore their interests in a safe and supportive environment. Whether it's sports, music, theater, or a particular academic subject, clubs provide a space where students can pursue their passions.
  • To develop new skills: Clubs often offer opportunities for students to learn new skills, whether it's public speaking, leadership, or teamwork. These skills can be valuable both in and out of school.
  • To make friends: Joining a club can be a great way for students to make new friends and develop a sense of community within the school.
  • To enhance college applications: Colleges and universities look for well-rounded students who are actively involved in extracurricular activities. Joining a club can demonstrate a student's commitment and involvement outside of the classroom.
  • To have fun: Finally, clubs can simply be a lot of fun! They provide a break from academic work and allow students to relax and enjoy themselves in a social setting.

    colored pencilsThe main purpose of an art club is to create art! Students may work on individual or group projects, exploring a variety of mediums such as painting, drawing, sculpture, or digital art. Sometimes we collaborate on large-scale murals or other community art projects. This can provide a sense of accomplishment and pride in creating something that others can enjoy. We also encourage students to enter local or national art contests, giving students a chance to showcase their skills and potentially win recognition or prizes. We also have at least one field trip per year to visit a local museum. This exposes students to different styles of art and inspire them in their own work.

Students are challenged to solve complex problems by designing and building robots. This can be a fun and rewarding activity that encourages creativity and innovation.

    reading and books. The club aims to promote reading at JMS.
    Grades: 6-8
    Sponsor: Mrs. Brock and Ms. Velchoff
    Meetings: Short-term; Wednesdays – after school- $10 for notebook, sticky notes,
    colored pens
