All 5 Schools Earned Highly Effective Schools Accreditation

All five schools in the Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation have earned a Highly Effective Schools Accreditation from Solution Tree. This accreditation is a significant achievement that reflects all five schools’ commitment to learning and maintaining the highest levels of educational quality. Mt. Vernon High School, Mt. Vernon Middle School, Fortville Elementary  School, McCordsville Elementary School, and Mt. Comfort Elementary School earned this accreditation by driving permanent, positive, and significant impacts on student achievement. These areas are directly aligned to the Professional Learning Communities at Work® (PLC) process and the High Reliability Schools™ framework.

Superintendent Dr. Jack Parker shared, “All five Mt. Vernon Schools are equipped with hardworking staff that strive to provide a top-quality educational environment where all students are able to learn and thrive. The Highly Effective Schools Accreditation confirms and demonstrates the dedication our staff and school leaders have to continue their mission to help students become successful in and out of the classroom. As the Mt. Vernon Schools continue to grow, we are proud to say we have kept these principles at top priority to provide a positive academic experience to prepare students for their future and continue to learn.”

Schools and districts that recognize the key to improved learning for students is
ongoing, job-embedded professional learning for educators that primarily take place in their Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings. The three big ideas of the PLC
at Work process call upon educators to: (1) focus on learning, (2) build a collaborative culture, and (3) create a results orientation. The complementary HRS framework serves
as a long-term strategic planning tool that guides school improvement in five key areas:
1. Safe, Supportive, and Collaborative Culture
2. Effective Teaching in Every Classroom
3. Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum
4. Standards-Referenced Reporting
5. Competency-Based Education

As part of the commitment to providing teachers and administrators professional development, approximately 45 teachers and administrators attended the “PLC at Work” conference this summer in Missouri. At this conference, the staff evaluated our current progress and delineated pivotal actions for effective implementation. The aim is to foster innovative strategies that will continue the transformation of Mt. Vernon into an educational environment where all students can achieve high levels of learning. Attendees shared that they enjoyed their experience as it expanded their knowledge about shared curriculum and resources for staff.

Cameron L. Rains, Vice President of Strategic Initiatives for Solution Tree, explained, “In order to receive Highly Effective Schools Accreditation, schools must put a laser-like focus on the things that really matter and make a difference for students. We commend all five schools in the Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation for achieving this designation and for going the extra mile for the learners they serve.”
