Food Service FAQ's

Will my students still use their lunch accounts?

Yes, students will still use student lunch accounts.  They must use their ID badges to scan for their account.  Families can still deposit money into accounts for the purchase of a la carte items (high school/middle school students).

Do I still need to complete a Free/Reduced application if I think I qualify?

Yes! In order to qualify for textbook assistance and any further government provided P-EBT cards you will need to complete a Free/Reduced Application.

Are school meals and the school meal environment safe?

The health and safety of our students and staff is our #1 priority.  We’ve made several changes to ensure eating with us is as safe as possible. After reading further CDC and ISDH recommendations, meal service will return to previous years options and choices as able.  Touchless barcode scanners will still be used with the student ID cards for purchases. Please ensure your student has their ID cards with them when coming through the lunch line.  We will continue to make the school cafeteria a positive experience for our students and staff.

Why you should take advantage of the free school meals being offered?

  • It extends your food budget and saves you time on meal prepping.

  •  It’s comforting and familiar to your student to have nutritious meals at school.

  • Good nutrition and learning depend on each other.

  • Healthy and nutritious meals keep students fueled and attentive to learning.

  • For each breakfast and lunch served, MVCSC Food Service Department receives federal funding; you’ll be supporting the MVCSC Food Service Department.

If I want my child to pay for their meal, are they allowed to do this?

No, the federal funding is dedicated to free breakfast and lunch meals for ALL students across the country. It is an all or nothing opportunity so all students receive a free meal.

If my child wants a second meal, will they need to pay for it?

Yes, every student's first meal at breakfast or lunch will be free, and they will be required to pay for any extra purchases or second meals. A child may not purchase extras with their account if they do not have funds in their account.

Should I put money in my child's account?

If your child is one who enjoys snacks or other additional items, they must have money in their account to make this purchase. Additionally, we are encouraging that this time be used to pay off any negative lunch balances due to the savings during meal times.
