Dr. Missy Brooks

Dr. Missy Brooks is the Director of Instruction and Special Education for Mountain Brook Schools. Dr. Brooks also serves as the Director of Federal Programs, Career Tech, Professional Development, and Accountability. Missy worked as an English and science teacher and as a local school administrator prior to coming to Mountain Brook. She sometimes serves as an adjunct professor at Samford University where she teaches an online master’s level education course.  In addition, Missy is a consultant for various school systems across the state in the area of curriculum and assessment, social emotional learning, self-regulation, and student voice and ownership.  She oversees the implementation of the Institute for Innovation, LEAD, and mentor programs for the district.

She has been quoted in national publications such as Tech & Learning, District Administration, The Journal and was a part of a podcast by Frontline Education concerning mental health in schools. Additionally, Missy and the special education department were featured in Special Ed Connection for their special education immersive classroom, and earlier this school year, she was interviewed about the Alternative Learning Center by the same publication.Additionally, she has presented at national conferences such as CoSN, ISTE, NSTA, and Learning Forward. Dr. Brooks maintains certification as a Student Mental Health Specialist.
