Jason Smith

Jason Smith is currently serving his 5th year as Director of Bands at Mountain Brook High School in Birmingham, Alabama. The Mountain Brook band program is a unique, team-teaching environment and Mr Smith's duties include elementary beginning band, junior high school concert and symphonic bands, as well as high school jazz combo and symphonic bands. During his tenure, the Mountain Brook Marching Band performed in Hawaii for the 75th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor and the 75th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy.

Previous to his joining the staff at Mountain Brook, Mr. Smith served 6 years as Band Director of Opelika High School in Opelika, Alabama. The Opelika Band Program is recognized for its rich tradition in music education and serves as a vital component of the fine arts focus of the Opelika School System.

Mr. Smith also served as Assistant Band Director at Enterprise High School in Enterprise, Alabama for 11 years. His duties included Symphonic Band and Director of all Winter Guard International Activities including the 5-time PSA World Finalist Enterprise Indoor Percussion Ensemble.

Ensembles under the direction of Mr. Smith have maintained a consistent “Superior” ratings at contests and festivals throughout the state and region. Mr. Smith has has the privilege of leading bands in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Chicago, Illinois and the Fiesta Flambeau Parade in San Antonio, Texas.

Mr. Smith has served as Chairman for Alabama Bandmasters Association District VI. He is a member of the National Association for Music Education and the Percussive Arts Society.

Mr. Smith received is B.S.Ed. from Western Carolina University in 1996 and his M.S.Ed. from Troy University in 2001. He is happily married to Lisa and they have three children, Braeden, Grayson and Jaimes Katelyn. He also has “No Dog,” a golden lab affectionately known as Indy.
