I was born in Haleyville, Alabama. I graduated from the University of North Alabama where I received both my B.S. and M.A. degrees. I have taken post-graduate classes at the University of Alabama in Birmingham.

I have been teaching for thirty-one years. I began my teaching career in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I taught school in Tuscaloosa for three years and then moved to Tuscumbia, Alabama. I taught for two years in the Tuscumbia system before staying home with small children. When I returned to the teaching profession, I taught seventh and eighth grade science at Homewood Middle School before coming to Mountain Brook Junior High.
