Mrs. Mariya Breaux - Biology

Mrs. Mariya Breaux came to Mountain Brook Schools in 2002 and has taught 8th grade science and 9th grade biology and advanced biology at Mountain Brook Junior High.  As of May 2023, she has completed her 32nd year of teaching and her 21st year at MBJH.

Mrs. Breaux was born on the island of Mindanao, Philippines and grew up in Starkville, Mississippi, where she graduated from Starkville High School. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Millsaps College, she entered the Mississippi Teacher Corp at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi, where Mrs. Breaux earned a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction.  Prior to arriving in Alabama, Mrs. Breaux had 11 years of experience teaching 7th grade to 12th grade students in Greenville, Mississippi; Jennings, Missouri; and Charleston, West Virginia.

Here at Mountain Brook Junior High, Mrs. Breaux and the science department work collaboratively, teaching within the grade level and vertically among the grades through a Professional Learning Community (PLC).  The biology department is staffed by three National Board Certified Teachers who incorporate the latest teaching strategies and technologies to meet National, State, and Local Science Standards.  If asked, Mrs Breaux says her goal is for the students, parents, and teachers to have a productive and successful school year finding answers to scientific questions.
