Trustees recognize CTE state qualifiers

MISD Trustees recognized three CTE programs and students as State qualifiers at their April 15, 2024, monthly Board meeting.

Entrepreneurship

The DECA program at The MILE prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for marketing, finance, hospitality, and management careers. Five MISD students qualified for the State DECA contest in Houston on February 15-17. 

Before the competition, these students prepared lengthy business plans, marketing campaigns, and testing through examination.

  • Brycen O'Leary (MHS) - Automotive Services Marketing
  • Taryn Heggen (HHS) - Integrated Marketing Campaign, Product 
  • Camilla Kacho (HHS) - Restaurant and Food Service Management 
  • Jaxon Salzman (MHS) & London Coffman (MHS) - Startup Business Plan

 

Health Science

The following students participated in the State HOSA contests in Galveston on April 2-5.

  • London Coffman - Speaking Skills: 2nd place in the State of Texas
  • Adalynn Aday - Personal Care: 7th place in the State of Texas
  • Madalena Mazzarese - Researched Persuasive Writing & Speaking: 10th place in the State of Texas
  • Madalyn Poplawski - Home Health Aide: Top 20 in the State of Texas (approximately 400 competed in this event)
  • Hailey Andrle - Home Health Aide: Top 20 in the State of Texas (approximately 400 competed in this event)
  • Mattie Prather - Medical Reading: Top 20 in the State of Texas (approximately 200 competed in this event)
  • Molly Greeson & Ava Morales - CPR & First Aid: Top 20 in the State of Texas (approximately 500 teams competed in this event)
  • Alexis Morris & Maggie Seago - Public Service Announcement: Top 20 in the State of Texas (approximately 500 teams competed in this event)
  • Anatomage Tournament Outcome: 6th place in the State of Texas

The Midlothian High School HOSA Chapter also earned a Certificate of Merit for its Blood Drive, and the following students were awarded college scholarships:

  • Lailah-Trinity Hernandez: $5,000
  • Anup Roy: $3,000
  • Lucas Hubbard: $1,000

Robotics

The Heritage High School Jagwire Robotics Team is only in its second year of existence, and the team is setting high expectations for future robotics students by qualifying to attend the State Robotics competition in Houston on April 3-6. There are 27 students on the HHS robotics team.
