Macy Scott receives Jean Coleman Award for Excellence in Reading Education

Midlothian ISD and its trustees presented Macy Scott, a second-grade teacher at Jean Coleman Elementary, the Jean Coleman Award for Excellence in Reading Education at the monthly meeting on October 21.

Scott served Midlothian ISD as a special education para for two years and has been a second-grade teacher for the past six years. Scott regularly creates and organizes research-based reading activities and materials for her team using district resources with fidelity and implementing strategies for her students in small group and whole group instruction.  She creates wonderful relationships with her students and their parents. Parents of her previous students who have struggled with reading reach out to her often to thank her for the impact she made on their child's success in reading.

The Jean Coleman family generously donated to establish this award, which is be given to a second-grade reading teacher who has excelled in reading instruction and is nominated by his or her peers and administrators. Jean Coleman was a second-grade teacher in Midlothian for 25 years.
