Irvin Elementary principal named

Midlothian ISD has named Jennifer Leonard as the new Principal of J.R. Irvin Elementary. Leonard is returning to Midlothian ISD. She began her career in education 13 years ago as a classroom teacher at Irvin Elementary, where she stayed until 2020 when she accepted the position of assistant principal at Plum Creek Elementary in Joshua ISD.

The MISD Board of Trustees approved Leonard's appointment at its Dec. 18 board meeting. “She is a talented leader with a huge heart for the Irvin campus, our community, and Midlothian ISD,” said Superintendent Dr. David Belding. “Her outside leadership and professional experiences, coupled with her knowledge of MISD, will serve our students and families well. We are excited to welcome her home.”

Leonard’s campus leadership experience is rooted in building relationships and strong communication to support student needs and encourage academic success for all students. She has a strong understanding of practices for disaggregating student data to support classroom instruction and improve student learning. As a servant leader, she strives to enrich the lives of students and staff through a collaborative approach.

“I am thrilled and honored to accept the position of Principal at J.R. Irvin Elementary,” said Leonard. “Returning home to a district and a campus where I have previously had the privilege of teaching, holds special significance for me. I am deeply committed to the success and growth of our students, and I am excited to contribute to the continued excellence of J.R. Irvin. As a Midlothian ISD alumni, a parent with students in the district, and as a former employee, I know firsthand what an exceptional district this is.”

The principal search process included input from campus staff and parents and included three comprehensive interview phases. Leonard will step into her new role when the district returns from winter break Jan. 8. Interim Principal Judy Walling will continue to lead the campus through the closure of the first semester.

Leonard expressed her excitement to work alongside the Irvin team and the families it serves. “I am eager to build upon the strong foundation that has been established at Irvin, fostering an environment that promotes academic achievement, personal growth, and a sense of community. I look forward to working collaboratively with the talented educators, dedicated parents, and bright students to create an inclusive and innovative learning environment. Together, I am confident that we can inspire a passion for learning and empower our students to reach their full potential.”
